Our movie and TV ratings are available on Netflix, Comcast, DirecTV, and many other partner networks, helping families and kids make smart media choices. Through our schools program, we provide educators with a curriculum that teaches the essential digital citizenship and literacy skills every student needs to succeed. More than 55,000 member schools across the country use our ratings and free curriculum and content. We also work with policymakers, industry leaders, legislators, and a grassroots community of concerned parents and teachers to improve the media and education landscape for kids, families, and schools.

 

Common Sense is seeking an all-star intern who can help our marketing team over the summer. This is a great opportunity for any individual looking to gain practical marketing experience at a rapidly growing, national nonprofit. The ideal candidate will be a great team player who is detail-oriented and can work both collaboratively and independently.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Join an in-house social media team that creates and shares a high volume of content daily and interfaces with a social audience of nearly half a million parents, educators, and advocates on 14 active social channels. You will also help out with general org-wide marketing projects.
  • Get hands-on experience with the basics of social and digital marketing and some project and campaign management.
  • Projects may include:
    • Supporting social media content creation, publishing, analyzing, and reporting.
    • Researching new audience segments, including relevant influencers and press.
    • Updating brand best practices on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and YouTube for team members.
    • Assisting with production of our new Facebook Live weekly show.
  • Assist individual marketing team members with other research, communications, and administrative duties as necessary.

 

WHAT WE NEED TO SEE ON YOUR RÉSUMÉ

  • Marketing, media studies, or business majors preferred. Experience in executing social media (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest) for a brand or organization is a must. Experience with social marketing (paid ads) is a plus.
  • Creative, detail-oriented, and a self-starter with strong follow-through.
  • Team player; cooperative working style
  • Flexible and responsive; able to perform in a dynamic work environment

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Ideal start date: Orientation is Monday, June 4, from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. On-site attendance is preferred.
  • Ideal end date: Friday, August 10, 2018
  • Hours: ~20 hours/week
  • Interns will need to be available to attend a minimum of six weekly educational Lunch & Learns (there will be seven total). Lunch & Learns will be every Wednesday from 12 p.m.–1:00 p.m. (PST). On-site attendance is preferred.
  • We will work with your clinical or internship office for school credit.
  • This is a paid opportunity.
