Common Sense Education provides teachers and schools with free research-based classroom tools to help students harness technology for learning and life. Our K–12 Digital Citizenship Curriculum teaches students how to make safe, smart, and ethical decisions in the digital world.

 

We are seeking an education advice content intern for the Common Sense Education team. This role will work in our San Francisco office to support projects for Common Sense Education. This is a great opportunity for an individual who is interested in education technology, digital citizenship, supporting K–12 educators, and making a positive impact on schools.

 

The focus of this internship is K–12 education advice content. The intern in this position has the opportunity to build tangible and marketable skills, including:

  • Gain insight into the synthesis, creation, distribution, and marketing of teacher-facing education content.
  • Increase knowledge of education technology, digital citizenship, and the overall educational landscape that K–12 teachers face today.
  • Develop writing skills focused on concise, action-oriented, teacher-friendly, SEO-optimized messaging for the web.
  • Experience creating and publishing content for an audience of over 200,000 newsletter subscribers and nearly half a million monthly site visitors.
  • Gain technical experience working in Google Analytics, YouTube, Asana, and Drupal.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Research trends in edtech, media, teaching, and learning and write related articles.
  • Optimize existing advice articles with updated keyword tagging, SEO-optimized titles and subtitles, and related content.
  • Use Google Analytics and YouTube Analytics to track and report on user engagement.

 

WHAT WE NEED TO SEE ON YOUR RÉSUMÉ:

  • Writing, journalism, communications, and education majors preferred, or otherwise demonstrated interest in these subjects.
  • Prior experience in educational settings, or in creating or teaching lessons with students (in school, after-school, or camp settings).
  • Excellent written and in-person communication skills.
  • Highly motivated, self-directed, and well-organized.
  • Collaborative style.
  • Experience in Google Apps (Google Docs, Sheets, Slides). Experience with Google Analytics a plus.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Ideal start date: Orientation is Monday, June 17, from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. On-site attendance is preferred.
  • Ideal end date: Friday, August 9, 2019
  • Hours: ~15-20 hours/week
  • Interns need to be available to attend a minimum of six weekly educational Lunch & Learns (there will be seven total). Lunch & Learns will be every Wednesday from 12 p.m.–1 p.m. (PST). On-site attendance is preferred.
  • We will work with your clinical or internship office for school credit if necessary.
  • This is a paid opportunity.
