Recruitment Manager

The recruitment manager will be at the forefront of identifying and recruiting the most talented professionals to advance the Common Sense mission. S/he will work closely with the senior director, talent management and HR and the HR coordinator to ensure that our processes and procedures are top-notch and that our employees have the support, tools, and training to do their best work. This position requires discretion and a high degree of confidentiality, as well as a commitment to continuous improvement. The recruitment manager is a public face of the organization and must be capable of accurately and enthusiastically promoting the Common Sense brand and our employee experience to prospective new hires. They will also be a key driver of culture within the organization, serving as a vital point of contact for employees and managers throughout the employee life cycle, from recruitment to succession planning.

REPORTS TO: Senior director, talent management and HR 


  • Design, develop, and manage an ongoing recruitment strategy that yields a broad, diverse, and qualified candidate pool.
  • Build and manage efficient recruitment processes, procedures, and policies.
  • Coordinate with hiring managers to draft and develop job descriptions and specifications.
  • Actively source and recruit candidates for open positions across several channels (LinkedIn, Idealist, Indeed, professional networks, etc.).
  • Screen candidates and assess applicants' qualifications, skills, and experience.
  • Draft candidate profiles and provide hiring managers with a high level of internal customer service and support.
  • Coordinate with hiring teams to schedule and conduct candidate interviews.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with candidates during the application and selection process to ensure a positive overall experience for all applicants and prospective candidates.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective candidates and hiring managers throughout the entire recruitment process, ensuring both parties receive timely updates and follow-up.
  • Build robust and diverse pools of talent for current and future openings via networking, staff referrals, online sourcing, and participation in events. Develop deep partnerships with talent pipeline organizations and individuals who can be strong sources of diverse candidate referrals.
  • Establish organization-wide best practices and training for recruitment, testing, and interviewing; counsel managers on candidate selection and core competency-based interviewing.
  • Develop and maintain regular reporting procedures, metrics, and analytical data to identify trends in recruitment efforts and hiring outcomes.
  • Complete a needs assessment on existing selection tools; monitor recruiting best practices and develop/modify materials to ensure that organization has proactive talent-sourcing practices, tools, and resources in place.
  • Set the social media communication strategy for different job profiles and functions in the organization.
  • Coordinate with director, talent management and HR to ensure that job descriptions and positions align to internal job levels and are filled within budgeted salary ranges.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date job descriptions for all positions, including current staff.
  • Create and implement an employee development and succession planning strategy that utilizes knowledge of employee development, training, and future organizational needs to devise career tracks for employees who demonstrate the aptitude and desire for upward mobility.
  • Play an active role on the HR team, providing updates on recruitment efforts and contributing to HR initiatives as needed.


  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or equivalent, with a business/HR emphasis preferred.
  • 35 years proven work experience as a recruiter or in an HR role with an emphasis on recruitment.
  • Applicant tracking system (ATS) experience; experience with Recruiterbox and BambooHR is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with various interviewing techniques and selection processes.
  • Experience negotiating salaries and communicating benefits.
  • Excellent decision-making capabilities based on analytical skills and critical thought processes.
  • Ability to be creative and innovative in bringing solutions to problems. 
  • Solid communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment requiring great time-management skills and the ability to prioritize assignments.
  • A reputation for responsiveness, thoroughness, and accuracy.
  • Experience working with confidential information requiring discretion and tact. 
  • Strong computer skills; experience with Google Apps (Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Forms).
