Our movie and TV ratings are available on Netflix, Comcast, DirecTV, and many other partner networks, helping families and kids make smart media choices. Through our schools program, we provide educators with a curriculum that teaches the essential digital citizenship and literacy skills every student needs to succeed. More than 100,000 member schools across the country use our ratings and free curriculum and content. We also work with policymakers, industry leaders, legislators, and a grassroots community of concerned parents and teachers to improve the media and education landscape for kids, families, and schools.

We are looking for a passionate video intern who is excited to learn about the inner workings of a studio operation. As an intern, you will assist our video team in executing team project deliverables while garnering practical experience in a fast-paced national nonprofit environment. 

LOCATION: San Francisco, CA 

TYPE: Part-time, temporary

HOURS: ~20 hours per week

REPORTS TO: Senior director, video production, and video editor and distribution coordinator

YOU WILL LEARN HOW TO

  • Build tangible and marketable skills.
  • Hone your technical experience and video-editing skills.
  • Collaborate in a mission-driven organization. 

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Edit multiple videos, including movie reviews, tips, etc.
  • Assist with in-studio and location-based video production.
  • Create site and partner images.
  • Upload videos to Common Sense site and social media platforms.
  • Assist with closed-captioning of videos. 
  • Assist individual team members with other administrative duties.

WHAT WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE ON YOUR APPLICATION:

  • Enthusiasm to learn about our organization and our video department's work.
  • Demonstrated interest in education, advocacy, and social justice issues.
  • Past or current coursework in a related field.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Ideal start date: June 15th.
  • Ideal end date: August 20th.
  • Hours: ~1520 hours/week.
  • Interns need to be available to attend a minimum of six weekly educational Lunch & Learns (there will be seven total). Lunch & Learns will be every Wednesday from 12 p.m.1 p.m. (PST). On-site attendance is preferred.
  • We will work with your clinical or internship office for school credit if necessary.
  • This is a paid opportunity.
