Overview:

We are looking for a Campaign Manager to lead and support Future of Tech Commission (Commission) efforts with our chief of staff, marketing, and communications, and advocacy teams, and external partners, to generate a clear call to action for a comprehensive national tech policy agenda, as well as support related tech and kids advocacy and campaign projects at Common Sense Media. 

The immediate focus for this role will be to drive and operationalize, in collaboration with Commission leadership, the overall vision, and strategy of the Commission campaign for a coordinated national tech policy and to operationalize the campaign from fall 2021 onward. At the outset, approximately 75 percent of this role will include Commission activities, projects, and outreach and 25 percent will support additional advocacy-related special projects, as needed. Based on need and interests, the role will evolve as Commission activities and emerging Common Sense advocacy projects develop.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Designing, coordinating and executing a campaign plan that supports advocacy efforts related to the Future of Tech Commission findings and recommendations for a national tech policy agenda. Specific duties include:
    • Event and project management to implement the Commission’s findings and report, drive policymaker and public engagement, and continue to elevate the recommendations with key stakeholders.
    • Liaising with staff and external partners to coordinate ongoing engagement and campaign-related activities.
    • Coordination with the Common Sense marketing, communications, and advocacy teams.
  • Leading support for Commissioners, executive staff, and external partners (including key policymakers, advocates, and industry experts)  responsible for elevating a call for a national tech policy agenda. Specific duties include:
    • Drafting briefings for executive staff on core tech policy issues. 
    • Liaising with senior policy advisors to bolster policy and communications recommendations for the campaign. 
  • Supporting cross-cutting advocacy efforts and additional Common Sense Media campaigns, as needed.

Experience: 

The campaign manager brings political campaign and/or advocacy organizing experience, and marketing/comms or event experience is preferred. They excel at operations, partner management, and communications, and they can also serve as a strategic thought partner to implement the organizing strategy.

The ideal candidate is resourceful, organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and engaged, and possesses excellent interpersonal, operations, and partner management skills. The ideal candidate has a general background in policy, and advanced policy knowledge and skills in key tech policy issues is a plus--at a minimum candidates must be enthusiastic about learning more in these areas and able to learn quickly and apply new knowledge in coordinating with internal and external partners, and producing written documents such as briefs, communications assets, etc. 

Qualifications: 

  • Strong project management and organization skills with an ability to balance high-priority initiatives.
  • Marketing, events, or communications experience preferred.
  • Policy experience, with a key focus on tech policy a plus.
  • Skills in event coordination and project management are a plus.
  • Experience managing external partners and stakeholders, ideally in the nonprofit and/or advocacy sectors. 
  • Experience and comfort interacting across levels of an organization.
  • Communications and/or media experience preferred.
  • Specific experience working as part of bi-partisan efforts or as an advocate to garner bipartisan support is preferred.
