Director of Product Design

As Director of Product Design, you are a design-centric leader responsible for bringing exceptional human-centered digital experiences to life. Thoughtful, cohesive, accessible and intuitive design is central to our mission of making the digital world a better place for all kids. 

You will work closely with researchers, data analysts, product managers, engineers, and other cross-functional peers to ideate, evaluate, and iterate on well-crafted user-centric experiences. You will be involved in every aspect of the product development process, from brainstorming the next feature to tweaking pixels before launch. You will be responsible for the design vision across all digital platforms as well as managing, growing, and inspiring a team of designers.

LOCATION:  San Francisco, California (option to work remote)

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-time (40 hours per week) 

REPORTS TO: VP, Marketing and Creative


  • Be an influential leader in our design team and inspire collaboration around a compelling long-term design strategy and product vision.
  • Create and deliver exceptional design for user interfaces and experience across our digital products.
  • Lead and mentor our product designers to practice user-centric design, systems thinking, and rational design processes to ensure our digital experiences are best in class. 
  • Ensure our product design work is held to a high degree of excellence and rigor with respect to our brand standards and design principles.
  • Partner with product, engineering, data and research to ensure projects are well-defined, high impact, and successfully executed.
  • Effectively balance design, customer and business needs and guide products towards solutions that are unquestionably intuitive for our community and deliver successful business outcomes.
  • Work closely with design leadership to define and improve our design tools and operations.
  • Stay informed of emerging tech trends and socialize the learning among the product and creative teams.
  • Contribute to the brand's aesthetic and identity, and own the establishment and production of our digital style guide for internal use.
    Manage and focus designers, prioritize projects, align resources, ensure efficiencies,  and measure results.


  • 2+ years of professional experience managing designers
  • 6+ years of experience designing digital products that have shipped to the public
  • A portfolio of work that demonstrates your web and mobile design expertise, and stories backed by data that outlines the impact of your work
  • Experience working cross-functionally to drive vision, collaboration, and execution
  • Deeply detail-oriented, but able to recognize when and how to think big picture
  • Proven experience with eCommerce, purchase paths, and transactional product design
  • Experience with iterative prototyping and testing, and dual-track agile design/development
  • Knowledge and application of user-centered-design / human-centered-design methodologies
  • Expertise in standard tools of the trade (esp. Sketch, InVision, Figma, etc.) and able to learn new tools quickly
